Death of an inmate from Millhaven Institution - Regional Treatment Centre

On June 27, 2023, Thomas Straub, an inmate from Millhaven Institution’s Regional Treatment Centre, died while in our custody following an illness.

At the time of death, the inmate had been serving an indeterminate sentence for armed robbery, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, and failure to comply with a probation order, which commenced on January 23, 2020.   

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) policy requires that the coroner be notified.
