Death of an inmate from Collins Bay Institution

March 25, 2024 – Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

On March 23, 2024, David Kreindl, an inmate from Collins Bay Institution, died while in our custody. 

At the time of death, the inmate had been serving a sentence of 12 years and 1 month, which commenced on July 13, 2016, for offences including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, discharge of a prohibited firearm with intent, and uttering threats to cause death or harm.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
