Death of an inmate from Collins Bay Institution

April 17, 2024 – Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

On April 15, 2024, Steven Tanner, an inmate from Collins Bay Institution, died while in our custody. 

At the time of death, the inmate had been serving a life sentence, which commenced on January 14, 1987, for the offence of second degree murder.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
