Death of an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary
News release
April 1, 2026 – Dorchester, New Brunswick – Correctional Service Canada
On March 31, 2026, Melvin Glen Stanton, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary, died while in our custody.
At the time of death, the inmate was 70 years old and had been serving a life sentence since March 16, 1971.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) policy requires that the coroner be notified.
