Institute for Research in Defence and Security

Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) is creating the Institute for Research in Defence and Security. The Institute’s goal is to engage the academic community in finding solutions to challenges Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members face when using technology.

The Institute seeks to establish a science and technology environment which supports innovation and is built on resource, information and knowledge sharing. Its ultimate goal is to engage research, academic, technical and scientific communities to self-organise and create innovative networks constituting topic-specific centres of expertise.

Each Centre will establish and nurture a network of networks in several domains of interest. Their scope will span from basic concepts up to mature technologies and full capabilities.

Centre of Expertise for Human System Performance

The first centre of expertise will focus on human systems performance. Participants will explore how to improve the physical and cognitive capabilities of CAF members and help them achieve their highest level of physical and cognitive performance.
