December 12, 2022 - Ottawa, Canada - Department of Finance Canada

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, will represent Canada at the Standing With the Ukrainian People conference in Paris, France, on December 13.

Co-chaired by France and Ukraine, and bringing together partners including donors and multilateral institutions, the conference aims to respond to the most pressing challenges facing Ukraine during the winter, including energy, water, food supply facilities, health, and transportation.

Since the beginning of Russia’s brutal and illegal invasion, Canada has already disbursed $2 billion in direct financial assistance to Ukraine, and committed an additional $500 million through the successful issuance of a Ukraine Sovereignty Bond. Canada has also committed more than $2.5 billion in military, humanitarian, and other assistance to support Ukraine, for a total commitment of more than $5 billion so far in 2022.

Quotes

"The brave people of Ukraine continue to need the world’s support as they fight for their freedom and democracy, and Canada will continue to do everything we can to ensure they can make it through the winter and beat back Putin’s barbaric invasion. This conference is an important opportunity for us to work with our allies to provide the people of Ukraine with the resources they need to sustain their heroic resistance."

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance
