Government announces appointment to the Canadian International Trade Tribunal

Today, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, announced the appointment of Elizabeth Whitsitt as a member of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) for a 5-year term.

The CITT is an independent, quasi-judicial adjudicative body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance.

The CITT supports the government’s objective of a fair and secure Canadian marketplace by providing Canadian and international businesses with access to fair, transparent, and timely adjudication of trade and tariff matters.

The CITT conducts inquiries into dumping, subsidy, and procurement complaints; hears appeals of decisions by the Canada Border Services Agency and the Canada Revenue Agency; conducts safeguard inquiries; and provides advice to the government and/or to the Minister of Finance on economic, trade, and tariff issues.
