News release

September 3, 2025 – Ottawa, Ontario – Department of Finance Canada

Today, the Government of Canada concluded its nationwide consultations ahead of Budget 2025, which will set out the federal government’s plan to support Canadians and Canadian businesses during this time of heightened global challenges while building the strongest economy in the G7.

Over the last six weeks, Minister of Finance and National Revenue François-Philippe Champagne, Secretary of State Wayne Long, and Parliamentary Secretaries Ryan Turnbull and Rachel Bendayan, met with stakeholders in 26 cities across the country. Together, they hosted nearly 50 roundtables and 60 bilateral meetings with workers, business leaders, Indigenous communities, unions, innovators, and more – listening directly to the challenges and opportunities shaping Canada’s future.

Discussions touched on internal trade and labour mobility, addressing the impact of U.S. tariffs, advancing digital transformation including through artificial intelligence, manufacturing and innovation, immigration, and affordable housing.

In addition, Canadians from coast to coast to coast made their voice heard through Canada.ca/your budget. Since the survey’s launch on July 14, nearly 84,075 Canadians shared their views. Their input focused on building one strong economy, reducing everyday costs, and bolstering Canada’s defence and security.

The insights gathered through these consultations and online submissions will play a vital role in shaping Budget 2025 and ensuring it reflects the voices and priorities of Canadians.

“Our government is working tirelessly to protect our industries and workers from unjustified tariffs, lower costs for Canadians, create one strong and united Canadian economy, and make Canada an energy superpower. But we can’t do that without Canadians’ input. From every province and territory, we’ve heard directly about the challenges, ambitions and hopes that will shape the future. Thank you to all those who participated.”

Minister of Finance and National Revenue

“Over the past six weeks, we have crisscrossed the country and heard from Canadians from coast to coast to coast about their priorities for our new government’s first budget. What we have heard in these consultations will play a critical role in shaping Budget 2025’s blueprint to build the strongest economy in the G7, make Canada a global energy superpower, defend our sovereignty, keep our communities safe, and make life more affordable for Canadians.”

- The Honourable Wayne Long,
Secretary of State responsible for the Canada Revenue Agency and financial institutions

“Input of Canadians across the country will help us mold Canada’s next budget —a budget focused on building the housing and infrastructure we need, unlocking investment, and leveraging what Canada has to offer the world.  As we work to address affordability, and protect our sovereignty and economic security, it has been inspiring to see the unity, and resolve, of Canadians who are determined to build the strongest economy in the G7.”

“Meeting with business leaders and industry associations throughout the summer has provided us with a unique perspective not only on the priorities of Canadians but the incredible ambition we have for our country. Canadians are rolling up their sleeves and ready to cooperate to make big things happen.
