March 3, 2021 - Cpl Zachary Ross
Members of Tech Svc Br, Det Wainwright conducted forklift training from 23-27 Nov 2020. 15 members Log Sp Coy, Maint Coy and 77 Line Regt successfully completed the week long forklift course and attained an F5 qualification.
During the course students were taught and completed various tasks such as;
- Driver Inspection (DI);
- Operating the vehicle through an obstacle course, with and without a load;
- Proper position of the forks and raise/lower a load;
- Stacking/unstacking loads; and
- Storage/parking the vehicle.
Student were instucted by MCpl Daniel Sirelpuu, MCpl Simon Bourassa and MCpl Marty Munroe, all from Log Sp Coy. Under the constent supervision of an instructor, all students performed the above tasks daily until becoming comfortable and proficent in their ability to safely handle and operate the forklift.
Each day began with complete DI of each forklift by student’s followed by some manuevering through an obstacle course created by the instructors. They then moved into fork positioning followed by raising and lowering various loads, the difficulty increased as student’s gain confidence. We started with stacking pallets and moved to tri walls, once student were demonstrating excellent skills, we challenged them with moving throught the obstacle course with a load and stacking the load on a shelf at the end. Each lesson ended with the proper parking and storage of the forklift, students also completed a check of the vehicle for any damage, fuel/battery life, tires etc.
After four days of training, student’s were then tested on everything they learned. All were successful in obtaining their forklift qualification and now have more qualified personnel to assist with daily tasks and operations.
