Hi, I'm Dr. Darrell Menard. I'm the Surgeon General Sports Medicine Specialist and I am here to take the 60 Seconds challenge.
"What is the Sports and Exercise Medicine Specialist and why did you decide to study this area?"
Well, Sports Medicine physicians focus their practices on the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and using exercises to help people with their health. I chose this field because I think it's very important and I can't think of anything else that I rather do with my life.
"Who's been the most influential person throughout your career?"
Most definitely my wife.
"If you can have a super power, what would it be?"
X-ray vision.
"What kind of exercise are you doing to stay active?"
I cross-train. I run, I cycle, I race walk, I walk, and I do calisthenics.
"What's the best advice you can give someone starting a new physical fitness program?"
Find something you enjoy doing. Find a time a day that works for you. Don't try to make the Olympic team on the first week of your training. And listen to your body.
"What is the best advice you can give someone trying to attain their fitness goals during the pandemic?"
Be patient. Establish a regular exercise routine. Be willing to adapt. And make use of all the things around you.
That's it, folks. Bye.
