Capt Mary Cameron-Kelly: Even on a cloudy day when you haven’t seen the sun for a few days, you go up above the clouds and see the sun, and it just gives you that warm, fuzzy, you know, just kind of relaxation.
Capt Mary Cameron-Kelly: Hi, I’m Capt Mary Cameron-Kelly, and I’m here to do the 60 Seconds Challenge. Let’s do it.
What is your favourite memory from your 42-year career in the CAF?
My favourite memory would be receiving my Wings at the pilot graduation. But the most vivid one I can remember is my first take off in the Aurora.
What is something people may be surprised to learn about you?
Since I was 18 years old, I have my black belt in kung fu.
How will future generations of women build on your success?
Well, I think for me, is being persistent in what you want to pursue in life. Do not give up, because I find if one door closes, another door opens. And, maybe it’s not the right time, but your time will come.
What always puts a smile on your face?
Going flying.
What advice would you give women considering the CAF?
I found the Air Cadets gave me a good start in life, because it taught me leadership, it taught me teamwork, being able to speak in front of people. It can be very rewarding if you take the right path and you do the right stuff. And it makes it very challenging, but at the end, you get to do what you need to do.
