Great outdoors or great indoors?
Stephanie: Great outdoors.
Stephanie: I’m Stephanie San Miguel, and I’m the Environmental Advisor to 4th Canadian Division, and I’m here to take the 60 Seconds Challenge.
What is a little-known fact about you?
That I spent two years working as the NATO Environmental Advisor to the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) in Kabul, Afghanistan.
What makes you smile no matter what?
A sunny day.
What CAF trades work directly supporting environmental initiatives?
I would say all of them do. When you think about what we do and when we operate, we’re operating out in the environment, whether it’s the land, the air, or the sea.
What are words to live by?
Be curious. Never lose your sense of wonder in the world.
What can Defence Team members do to push environmental initiatives forward at their workplaces?
It starts with awareness. It starts with understanding that every task that you do can have an environmental impact, and then making decisions that actually can help to reduce that impact.
In your opinion, what’s the most impactful environmental initiative at 4th Canadian Division?
I would say it’s our Sustainable Range and Training Area Program, where we’re looking at how to manage and use our training areas such that they have the same high quality of environment now, as well as into the future.
