How important is teamwork as a close protection operator?
Teamwork is huge as a close protection operator. Everything we do is team based and we're only as strong as our team.
Hi, I'm Sergeant work with the Canadian Forces Protective Services Unit and this is the 60 second challenge.
What is a close protection operator?
A close protection operator is a highly trained, motivated, driven individual who provides protective services domestically and internationally for designated VIPs.
Why did you do this?
I decided to become a close protection operator because I wanted to challenge myself, work in a small team environment. I enjoy traveling the world and I get opportunities that the conventional military does not offer.
What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is traveling the world and working with the people that are in the close protection community.
What advice would you give someone considering a close protection operator trade?
I would say be confident but humble. Train with intent and try to excel in everything that you do.
How can CAF members become close protection operators?
CAF members can become close protection operators by watching for the CANFORGEN, applying for the selection. Upon successful completion of the selection, it'll be merit loaded and then loaded onto a projection operator course.
