Today we are going to be, draining the oil of the diesel generator that we have on board, HMCS Fredericton.

Take these access panel off.

So we have opened the valve to the drain line.

Turn the pump on and this will allow the pump to force the oil out of the DG.

We have an equalizing valve. I'm going to switch that over now.

This equalizes and ensures that we can take off the old filters

So we're going to need a strap wrench and a bucket.

Soaka pads on the ground to, collect anything that we may drip.

I've always worked on vehicles with my dad it's very familiar and quite enjoyable. The satisfaction that you get when you are putting something together and, you know, you did it all with your two hands.

This is the first filter that we've taken off out of the four that we have on the diesel generator. We will change these every 500 hours.

We're now going to, go over to fill the oil up. The purpose of oil is to cool down the engine. The engine can get to very high temperatures. And if the oil is contaminated, that can cause the temperatures to have a difficult time coming down.

We're going to start with our valve right here under our big oil tank that is holding all of our capacity. We've got a couple valves right down here and our pump. Then we're going to open the valves up to.

We can now start our pump. And this will allow the diesel generator to fill with oil to the proper capacity of 150L.

For our oil pump it has a simple on and off. We have a remote control that I'm going to go over to the sight glass and monitor how much oil I'm putting in.

We’re just kind of checking around for any leaks or anything. Everything appears to be good.

Now we can pop the doors back on, close all the rest of the valves. And our work here is complete.
