CAF Story | The Joggler
Transcript - CAF Story
I am a joggler. What is a joggler? It's a person who can run while juggling three or more objects.
"Why’d you do...?"
When I came back from deployment, one day, one of my friends sent me a picture of this one guy juggling five balls.
Since I already knew how to juggle and I already knew how to run, I decided to put the two together. Running around my neighbourhood and I was dropping balls every couple of meters.
But two months later, I was in pretty good shape that I was able to attend the Navy 5K here in Halifax that happens every August. And I came fourth overall, juggling five balls. Sorry, three balls.
When I juggle and run, there’s always happy thoughts that go through my mind.
I can run for hours, for a short period of time and it makes me smile and seeing the reaction of people's face when I pass them.
They're like: "Whoa! This is incredible!"
A lot of my coworkers told me it was a waste of time, that I was going to go nowhere with that.
Four years later, I did get a lot of outcome out of it.
I was attempting a world record attempt, which unfortunately, I failed by five seconds.
But first thing on Monday morning, everyone was asking how I did. I got messages over the weekend asking me how I did and some congratulations for my effort. So, everyone is really supportive.
People just feel like I'm bringing like a new perspective to running. It's not just something to exercise and lose weight or try to stay fit, it's a way to interact with other people and smile.
Running is a sport that's super easy to catch, but often, people are scared because they see people running so fast that it scares them.
So, what we bring to the CFB Halifax is a free program which I've seen people progress in the last two or three years, in the last six months, I've seen people progress so much.
For the last two years, the Navy has won the CAF challenge for running, which is really impressive because the Navy is not always seen as the most fit in the Canadian Armed Forces.
I did run with machetes once and I got stopped by the police. But that's another subject!
