During the 2024 IDEaS Counter Uncrewed Aerial Systems Sandbox at DRDC Suffield in Alberta, innovators demonstrated and tested their leading-edge counter drone systems to an audience of defence and security experts and end users. Innovators received valuable feedback to develop their technologies for the needs of the Canadian Armed Forces, Canadian law enforcement, and international partners.

Johanne Trépanier
Because we work domestically, we can’t use very large invasive technologies, so we are really looking for things that we can deploy more discreetly and ensure that we’re applying that and maintaining the safety of the public at the same time.

Marc-Olivier Bouchard (Translation for OC)
The mandate of Correctional Service here at the Sandbox is to be able to evaluate different types of technologies, to acquire partnerships, to acquire knowledge, and the Correctional Service of Canada, as I mentioned, has a multitude of problems with drones, we have thousands of intrusions per year, contraband deliveries, and being able to evaluate certain systems which will be better transposed into our reality and our infrastructures in this kind of environment, it Is the perfect place to make great evaluations.
