Transcript
(Phill) Each February, we celebrate Black History Month and honour the many achievements of Black Canadians and their integral role in our Defence Team.
(Angela) We encourage all Defence Team members, as well as fellow Canadians, to learn about the distinguished service of Black Canadians who, despite past barriers faced when trying to enlist in the military, fought to serve Canada and continue to do so both at home and abroad.
(Phill) Throughout the month, we will be sharing the voices and unique perspectives of our uniformed and civilian members on diversity, inclusion and leadership within the Defence Team.
(Angela) Together, we recognize Black Canadians and their remarkable effort in protecting Canada’s peace and freedoms. Thank you for your service.
This week is National Security Awareness Week.
(Phill) Here is Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (VCDS), Lieutenant-General Jean-Marc Lanthier and his Chief Warrant Officer (CWO), Martin Colbert with more on this annual event to stay vigilant with good security practices.
(CWO) Security culture is important for operations in the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces. It is something that we can achieve if we focus on what we do on a daily basis.
Properly disposing of classified material can make sure information does not end up where it is not supposed to.
Lock your computer no matter how long you plan to step away from your office.
Simple everyday things we do will create a culture of security.
(VCDS) If you are in doubt of what you are required reach out to your Unit Security Supervisor or other security specialists. Remember, security is everyone’s responsibility.
