DT News: What to expect at your COVID-19 vaccine appointment?

Video / April 20, 2021

Transcript

Your Canadian Forces Health Services team would like to put your mind at ease by providing you with information on what to expect when it’s your turn to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

First, be aware that Canadian Forces Health Services’ COVID-19 vaccination sites will respect both local and Canadian Armed Forces public health measures regarding COVID-19. This includes maintaining two meter spacing and limiting the number of people in enclosed spaces in accordance with local restrictions. Vaccination stations will also protect your privacy with temporary partitions.

Masks will be worn at all times and hands must be thoroughly washed or sanitized at arrival and departure.

Your local Canadian Forces Health Services clinic or your local Chain of Command will be in touch with you to provide an appointment time for your vaccination clinic. Timing and planning guidance may vary by location.

Although you will be given an appointment time and will be required to show up at the clinic, the COVID-19 vaccine is voluntary for all members of the Canadian Armed Forces. You will be required to consent on site, at the vaccination clinic, to receive the vaccine.

On the day of your appointment, you will be expected to arrive at the clinic on time, and the clinic staff will confirm your attendance.

Before you receive the vaccine, you will be provided with key information such as potential side effects, the process for receiving the vaccine, the process for actively declining the vaccine, and what to do if you decline but then change your mind. You will be given an opportunity to have your specific questions answered and finally, you will be advised of the time and date of your second dose.

Those who consent will receive their vaccine, at a vaccination station. You will be able to decline the vaccine up to the last minute, in front of the immunizer, behind a privacy wall.

Once you either receive or decline the vaccine, you will go to the waiting area for 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes, you will depart and the common areas will be sanitized before the arrival of the next group.

Thank you for taking the time to watch this video and we look forward to seeing you all at one of our COVID-19 vaccination clinics soon.
