Transcript

(E) The Royal Canadian Air Force’s Aeromedical Bio-containment Evacuation System recently achieved initial operating capability. The system reinforces the CAF’s ability to protect aviators and support other government departments, especially in the current context of the pandemic.

The system, located at 8 Wing Trenton, and used by the Canadian Forces Aeromedical Evacuation Flight, is the first of its kind in Canada. It consists of a large, white container that can be put inside a CC-130 Hercules or CC-177 Globemaster and is used to reduce the risk of contamination of medical teams, aircrew, and aircraft while transporting infected patients.

The container can be sealed and has a high-efficiency ventilation system to prevent contagions from escaping.

Additionally, the system also has specialized refrigerator units that can store and transport medical supplies, including vaccines.

The Aeromedical Bio-containment Evacuation System will be used to transport the COVID vaccine to Canadian Armed Forces personnel deployed around the world.

Before we go, May 3rd to 9th marks Mental Health Week here at National Defence and across Canada.

This year’s theme, #GetReal about how you feel, focuses on how naming, expressing, and dealing with our emotions is crucial for our own mental health.

All Defence Team members are encouraged to get involved in Mental Health Week activities. Check-out a full list of activities, resources and more on the DND/CAF Mental Health Week homepage.
