Transcript

(SVH) The Canadian Armed Forces SkyHawks Parachute team is planning to return to the skies in 2022 and are on the look-out for members interested in taking the leap!

Team captain, Captain Pierre-Alexandre Dufour, joins us today to tell us more about his experience, how to apply, and what the team is looking for in potential candidates.

(SVH) So thanks for joining us today, Capt Dufour.

(CD) My pleasure.

(SVH) So, just to kick it off, can you tell us a little bit about how you joined the SkyHawks and how long you've been with the team?

(CD) Yeah. So, for myself and all of the cadre on the team, we get posted on the team, so I arrived this summer on the SkyHawks team. For the rest of the team, they get picked out out of their applications to the team.

(SVH) And what does the team look for in potential candidates?

(CD) We look for motivated individuals. We look for people with great social skills, because we'll be close to the public. We look for people that are great at building team quickly since we don't have a lot of time between our training camps and the demonstration seasons. And we look for people that are coachable, that will grasp knowledge rapidly.

(SVH) And how can interested members apply and what's the deadline?

(CD) They can go and look for the SkyHawks page on the Army website. All of the process and the prerequisites and the administrative side of it is written there. Everything gets sent to skyhawks@forces.gc.ca, and out of there, we'll pick the applicants that we will call out for our main camp.

(SVH) And then, other than jumping out of an airplane, what's your favourite part of your job?

(CD) Definitely working with a small team that gets to know each other and gets better throughout the year. Also, we have atypical routines and schedules so that's another interesting part. And finally, we get to travel all across Canada and the United States so that's a pretty great experience for a military career.

(SVH) Thanks so much for joining us today.

(CD) You're welcome.
