(SC) Happy Ho-Ho-Holiday to the Defence Team!

I’m happy to be back again this year hosting this special holiday episode as I make my preparations here at the North Pole.

I’m thrilled to be joined today by Lilia Thomson, this year’s winner of the Deputy Minister and Chief of the Defence Staff holiday card contest.

I certainly have lots of questions, but I want to thank you for joining us, alright?

I received this super-duper card. Can you describe this amazing picture you created?

(LT) Yeah, so it’s a little girl hugging her father coming back from war. Not many soldiers in the world get to see their kids or wife during Christmas time. So I thought about that and did a picture of him coming back from war.

(SC) How long did it take you to complete this great artwork?

(LT) About 15 minutes.

(SC) 15 minutes!? I’m going to hire you as one of my elves!

(SC) How did you feel when you found out your picture had been chosen for the DM & CDS’ holiday card, Lilia?

(LT) I was so excited, jumping up and down. I started screeching “ahhh”. So excited that I actually won this. I jumped up and down with my little sister, Maria. And my dad got me twenty dollars because I won!

(SC) You got a little prize as well? Wow!

(LT) I would like it more if he gave me 100 (dollars).

(SC) Oh well, if you keep drawing the way you do and you keep winning contests I’m sure you’re going to make a lot of money but you’re also going to make a lot of great little cards and stories and drawings right?

Santa loves you very much, Lilia. Merry Christmas!

(LT) Bye!

(SC) Goodbye. Ho! Ho ! Ho!

(LT) Bye!

Well that’s all for this year, folks. Happy holidays and don’t forget that you can still send messages to deployed Canadian Armed Forces personnel over the ho-ho-holiday season using the Write to the Troops page in the related links.

I hope you’ll also track yours truly and my reindeer on December 24th with the help of NORAD Tracks Santa.

Happy holidays and Merry Christmas!
