Maj Roy: The Exercise MAPLE RESOLVE aims at validating two Mechanized Infantry Battle Groups as a friendly force, and one Light Armoured Battle Group as the enemy force. My role as Senior Observer Controller Trainer is to assemble, train, and lead a group of international OCTs in order to properly train the PTA. We aim, in plain text, at making sure they are a more effective fighting force.
The members currently training, they build on existing skills. They are an extremely fighting force already. We aim to challenge their ability to come in and control very large force in a very dynamic training environment, helped by a whole bunch of brigade enablers, such as engineers, artillery and drones.
This year, we aim to introduce more drone assets. So, this is a brand-new capability we try to develop as far as the training aide goes. Just today, we have an inject with a swarm of drones that should train the PTA to react properly in case their adversary in the future employs drones.
The Americans bring the air defence asset, which is very interesting for us. They can share their knowledge and their employment with the training audience. As well, they bring in a company of Special Forces, which really enriches the training, especially in the rear area security.
During the exercise, we leave a lot of leeway for the training audience to tailor their own exercise. So, we adapt to their needs, and there's a lot of stakeholders on MAPLE RESOLVE: We have the Air Force, we have the Brigade. And we all have different objectives, and we try to make the most of the Canadian dollars that are being spent today.
