LCdr Melanie Lahey: My name is Lieutenant Commander Melanie Lahey, and I am a Marine Systems Engineering Officer in the Canadian Fleet Atlantic Headquarters. And this year, I am the Parade Commander in the 2023 Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo is the world's largest annual indoor performance. It's a military tattoo consisting of military bands and displays, as well as international acts and civilian performers.

S1 Trishul Sharma: This is my second Tattoo. I am part of the National Band of the Naval Reserve, as a reservist out of HMCS York in Toronto. The band is made up of members who serve from all across Canada. We come together to be a part of this show. It's been a really incredible experience getting to perform alongside international members. We have people from the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, as well as Germany. It's just a real honour to play music alongside musicians of such high calibre coming from all over the world.

S1 Maude Fortier: As for me, I play the saxophone and I am a musician with the National Band of the Naval Reserve. We are taking part in the Tattoo this year to commemorate the 100th anniversary. I have a personal connection to being part of this show because my father was a musician in the Canadian Armed Forces for a number of years. I remember that when I was really young, I went to see him in the Tattoo and I always thought, "This is really cool; I'd like to do this one day"….and that's what I'm doing right now. So I'm really proud to be able to participate in this show.

LCdr Melanie Lahey: It's such a wonderful thing to participate in. You can get the opportunity to meet all the different groups that are coming together to put on such an amazing show. And just watching the show from backstage and seeing all the excitement – it's such an exciting and rewarding experience.

S1 Trishul Sharma: It means a lot to me to be a part of this show. My personal story is that I'm an immigrant. I came here in 1996, part of an Indian family, I was born in Oman. And I tell people basically everything I have that's dear to me is because of this country. I love that I get to be a part of something that commemorates the great Canadians who came before me and hopefully will continue to come after me.
