Artem: Well, I'm just an IT guy here from Ukraine, from Lviv City. I worked as [a] software developer for more than six years. But now due to this war, the time has come for me to come join [the] Armed Forces of Ukraine and to defend my country.
Artem: For me, I'm motivated to train here, to increase, to get my new skills here, and to be prepared and ready to be effective and to contribute to [the] victory of our country in this war.
Maj Jurgen Miranda: My role has been Contingent Commander of the Canadian Armed Forces here in Operation UNIFIER (ROTO 15). I've been in charge of Command and Control for the UK Training Element, and we've been deployed for approximately five months.
Maj Jurgen Miranda: The soldiers from Armed Forces Ukraine are extremely dedicated. They are very professional and humble. They're also looking to gain any information and take any lessons that we have to offer. Key lessons that we've drawn from this is the need to bring back atrophied skills, particularly in operations on an offensive and defensive context. Learning how to incorporate those lessons within an operation where we've modernized to the contemporary operating environment, is an important lesson that we need to bring back to the Infantry in particular, but the Canadian Army at large.
Maj Jurgen Miranda: This deployment has been exceptionally important to myself. It's been an absolute honour to serve with the Canadian Armed Forces, in addition with the Second Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. These soldiers have been extremely dedicated, and right down to the Private level, we are instructing Ukrainian soldiers and are now capable of fighting.
Maj Richard Law: We're forecasted to train approximately 1600 members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In addition to that, we're looking forward to developing lessons learned with our partner forces, as well as developing low level TTPs on the use of UAS at the tactical level.
Maj Richard Law: We are extremely excited to take over from 2PPCLI's efforts. They've definitely set the conditions for us to deliver excellent training to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We're very excited to help assist them in their development, ready to go to the front.
Artem: I really appreciate the contribution of Canadian trainers. They really focused on our understanding of different knowledge and different skills. Because every training, every area… it can help us to be more effective, and some of them actually can save our lives in combat.
Artem (in Ukrainian): Glory to Ukraine. Glory to our heroes.
