Exercise TRILLIUM VENTURE is an exercise of our responsiveness and readiness when the Canadian government and our other departments have called upon us to provide assistance.

As we've been practicing here, specifically for search and rescue, we're supporting the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) to actually conduct sweeps of an entire area. In this case, it's the Long Sault Parkway in Cornwall.

If this were a real-world incident, there would not be a single agency or level of government that would be able to handle this on its own. Coordination is improved because we are able to really work out the finer points of logistics, command and control and really work as a team.

We've had the opportunity to learn a lot from our partners, specifically with the OPP. We've gotten to understand how they conduct their business during a search and rescue. We've gotten to see some of their capabilities, and we've had the opportunity to share our capabilities with them and learn and develop as a partnership. The opportunity to come out and practice these skills and to develop these relationships allows myself and all of our soldiers that are represented on this exercise and in the lead up to this exercise to experience a significant amount of pride in being able to serve their country and serve their communities in the execution of this training and if the situation requires, to exercise these skills for real.
