Lieutenant-Commander Clayton Erickson: TRIDENT FURY is an exercise to provide an opportunity for us to come together both in the fleet and the RCN (Royal Canadian Navy), but also bring on partners from the Mexican Navy, the United States Navy, and the U.S. Coast Guard to engage in a number of mission sets to enable us to work together in defence of Canada, to ensure we communicate, operate, and execute missions in a joint environment.
Much of the conflict environments as we're paying attention to in the news are taking place in Europe or Middle East. However, that does not mean that we are free from threat. So it's important for us both in the Canadian Armed Forces and our allies in North America to ensure that we work together to ensure that we're able to respond to threats that could make their way across the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean.
Sailor 1st Class Francis Van Der Kamp: We simulate war and we simulate systems going down so that the sailors can be capable of rectifying all those issues and to be able to deal with adversities at sea.
Lieutenant-Commander Clayton Erickson: I think the message I'd like to share to Canadians, both of them in context to TRIDENT FURY, but just in general, is that we are operating out here on a regular basis. Whether it's for training, conducting patrols, responding to search and rescue incidents or otherwise being prepared to sail in a moments notice should an incident occur, whether it's natural disaster, a major search and rescue incident, anything. We are here to help Canadians and to defend Canada. We train extensively, we are always prepared and always training, so when it does happen it's a quick response.
