Healing Through Compassion

Transcript

What does healing with compassion mean to you?

That's a tough question.

Oh my gosh.

I wasn't expecting it to go this deep this quickly. Healing with compassion...

I think if you're talking about yourself, it's giving yourself the grace and the time to process things, and giving the same grace and time to others as well if they have to go through something tough. I guess compassion means...I try to, you know, understand my emotions and then hopefully, with someone else, can understand it as well.

And then as much as I can, try to be compassionate towards someone else, and then hopefully they can then return that back to me.

It means just offering an ear to listen to people in order to understand their situation, and then just to be there to help them if they're feeling down or just to give them some support.

How do you practice self-compassion during difficult times?

So when it gets difficult, I try not to be super hard on myself.

It could be a tendency to kind of be self-critical and be difficult, especially like — we're our harshest critics.

So I try to tell myself, you know, what you're going through is not unique.

I

t happens to a lot of people.

Try not to be so hard on yourself.

Try to give myself self-compassion, which is probably the hardest. It's easy to give compassion to people but it's hard to be compassionate to yourself. So that's where I try to practice it.

Yeah, give yourself time.

Do the things you love, take on a new hobby and find the strength that you have within yourself to move forward and and find things that make you unique and and yeah, go with that.

Well for me, it's about finding a passion and doing your hobbies.

So personally, I like music and motorcycles, so that's how I practice self-compassion.
