As a management tool, here’s how the revised Civilian Flexible Work Program supports employees and managers.

It helps both parties understand:

  • their accountabilities;
  • available options as part of the emerging flexible, varied and remote workforce; and
  • ensures our civilian employees can work remotely, flexibly and safely while being productive.

These options include requesting flexible work hours, remote work, and flexible work schedules in cases where operational requirements and circumstances permit.

It allows civilian employees to meet personal and family responsibilities affected by the current context surrounding COVID-19.

To move forward with a Flexible Work Agreement, it is necessary to discuss flexible work options with your manager.

Once decided upon, a formal agreement is made between employee and manager. using a simple, mandatory agreement form.

This mandatory agreement form applies to all civilian employees who currently have or are requesting a flexible work arrangement and includes situations where employees have been directed to work from home.

Once signed by you and your manager, the form should then be submitted to the Flexible Work Program by September 30.

For more information, visit the Defence Team COVID-19 – Working remotely web page for a series of resources and tools to help managers and employees understand and implement flexible work agreements.

These tools include the Civilian Flexible Work Guidance program guidance, a checklist for managers and employees, and instructions to complete the Civilian Flexible Work Agreement.
