Speaker 1 (to camera):
Hello, everyone! My name is Master Seaman Chris Richards.
Speaker 2 (to camera):
I’m Master Seaman Angelica Negreira
Speaker 3 (to camera):
And I’m Lieutenant (Navy) Kelly Riggs , and we serve in the Royal Canadian Navy.
Speaker 1 (to camera):
Right now, we’re standing on the HMCS SACKVILLE, an historic vessel that helped protect Canada during the Battle of the Atlantic. Today, our modern ships allow us to continue to protect Canada and work with our friends and partners around the world.
Speaker 2 (to camera):
Being a part of the Canadian Armed Forces means living by important values: courage, dedication, teamwork, and respect.
These values guide everything we do.
Speaker 3 (to camera):
Courage means doing what’s right and what needs to be done, even when we’re scared. Sailors in the Navy might face storms or dangerous waters, but they stay strong and focused.
Speaker 1 (to camera):
Dedication means working hard every day to keep our country safe, whether we are sailing far from home, helping communities, or responding to emergencies like natural disasters.
Speaker 2 (to camera):
Teamwork is about relying on each other—just like how a hockey team passes the puck to win a game, we support one another to complete our missions.
Speaker 3 (to camera):
And respect means treating everyone with kindness and fairness, whether they are part of our team or someone we are helping.
Speaker 1 (to camera):
Imagine being on a ship in the middle of the ocean, with no land in sight, sailing through waves as tall as houses.
Imagine standing on deck late at night, looking up at the stars, knowing your team is counting on you.
Speaker 2 (to camera):
Imagine working alongside your friends, making sure everything runs smoothly, just like a big family.
That’s what the Navy is—a family that supports each other, no matter what challenges come our way.
Speaker 3 (to camera):
For over a hundred years, the Royal Canadian Navy has been part of important missions.
During the Second World War, our ships protected groups of ships carrying food, medicine, and equipment that soldiers and people in war-torn countries needed to survive.
Speaker 1 (to camera):
Enemy submarines and ships tried to stop these supplies from reaching their destination, making every journey dangerous. But our sailors bravely faced those risks, guiding ships across the ocean to make sure help arrived where it was needed most.
Speaker 2 (to camera):
More recently, we’ve been helping deliver food and medicine to people in need, patrolling the Arctic to keep Canada’s waters safe, and working with other countries to stop illegal activities at sea.
Speaker 3 (to camera):
Sometimes, our missions take us into dangerous situations, but we train hard to be ready for anything.
Whether we are sailing through rough waters, responding to an emergency, or keeping watch at night, we know we’re doing something that matters.
Speaker 1 (to camera):
But Veterans' Week isn’t just about the Navy—it’s about all of Canada’s Veterans, past and present. A Veteran is someone who has served in the Canadian Armed Forces. That means the soldiers, sailors, and Air Force members who have protected our country throughout history, as well as those who continue to serve today.
Speaker 2 (to camera):
Many Veterans have worked in difficult places to make sure Canada stays safe. Some have faced danger so that others wouldn’t have to. They have all given a part of their lives in service to our country.
Speaker 3 (to camera):
This Veteran’s Week, as we honour those who served and fought for our country, we take time to remember their sacrifices and to show our appreciation. So, how can you do that?
Speaker 1 (to camera):
You can wear a poppy to honour those who have served. You can take a moment to reflect on what Veterans have done for our country. And you can say ‘thank you’ when you meet a Veteran.
Speaker 2 (to camera):
By remembering, we show that we are grateful for their sacrifices.
By learning, we make sure their stories are never forgotten.
Speaker 3 (to camera):
When you see a poppy, think about the people who have worked so hard to keep Canada safe.
When you hear about the Navy, think about the sailors who are out on the ocean right now, protecting our country and helping people in need.
Speaker 1 (to camera):
We serve because we believe in Canada.
Speaker 2 (to camera):
We serve because we believe in helping others.
Speaker 3 (to camera):
And we serve because we know that, together, we can make a difference.
Speaker 2 (to camera):
Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Royal Canadian Navy and about our Veterans.
SpeakerS 1-3 together:
We’re proud to serve Canada—And we’re proud to have your support.
