Staying Connected While Apart over the Holidays

This year, the holidays will be difficult. For many Canadians, this will be the first year we can't travel to see our loved ones in person. But for many of our Canadian Air Forces members, this is nothing new. Here are some of the ways that they stay connected while far away from their families.
(DP) Hi, I'm Sgt Prest of the military police here in on Air Task Force Romania. My two little friends here, Bunny and Harry, they help me keep in touch. Every time I go away, my daughter gives me her little friends here and they go on adventures. Instead of me on my Facebook, it's them. It's a way of maintaining operational security and still keeping engaged with my family back home.
(AG) Hello, I’m MCpl Alexis Gitto, currently deployed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Operation CROCODILE. Like hundreds of other military personnel around the world, I’m deployed away from my family during the holiday season. It’s always a difficult time for everyone. We will try as much as possible to communicate with them by videoconference or telephone calls to keep the spirit of the holiday season as alive as possible.
(KE) My name is Maj Kane Erickson and I'm currently deployed in the Democratic republic of Congo on operation CROCODILE. This is the first time that I'll be away from my family over the Christmas holidays. But I look forward to speaking with them and seeing them on a video call when I Canada find a secured internet connection here. Happy holidays to everyone back home.
(FSJ) Hello, I'm Capt Felix St-Jean "Wrangler" here at operation REASSURANCE in Romania. I'm a pilot here and one of the ways I'm trying to connect with my family is being seven hours ahead of their time, is when it is lunchtime for me, it's breakfast for them. So, we talk and we use Facetime and we Canada spend some time talking on the phone and seeing each other while we're both eating.
(ML) Hello, this is Maj Michel Larocque, currently in the Congo on Op CROCODILE. I want to take this opportunity to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of my family and to all Canadians across the country. And to my family, in particular, please continue to send presents because I love opening presents on Christmas day. Thank you.
