Investment Plan update

Transcript

In 2018, National Defence published the Defence Investment Plan for the first time.

It sets out key capital investments required to deliver Canada’s defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged.

And demonstrates our commitment to openness and transparency.

One year later, the Investment Plan’s 2019 annual update shows the significant progress we have made.

Claude Rochette:
We have improved our procurement process by looking at our procurement cycle. We have five phases which include the identification, options analysis, definition, implementation and the close-out of the projects.  We looked at each of these projects and we look at the complexity and cost, and based on that we look at where we can reduce these steps. For some projects now we have been able to reduce from 150 steps to 86 steps, which is a reduction of 43%. The advantage of doing that is not only now the projects are moving faster throughout our process, but also it gives us an opportunity to go to industry earlier.

We keep Canada’s defence and security industries informed of future investment opportunities through the Defence Capabilities Blueprint.

It contains the latest information on approximately 240 major capital equipment, information technology and infrastructure projects.

Through our capital program we are enabling our women and men in uniform to succeed in today’s complex security environment.
