June 6: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas

June 6, 2020 - Defence Stories

Update: Very aware that folks are tired, frustrated and in some cases, fearful of what is to come. This is entirely understandable. Please speak up to your supervisor about where your mental health is at.

Defence Team COVID-19 - Mental health and Wellness

Shout-out this week to the team behind the Assistant Deputy Minister (Review Services) Mental Health and Workplace Wellness Initiative and their ongoing efforts to promote happiness, workplace health, a positive work environment. Helpful inspiring leadership.

Business resumption planning across the Defence Team continues. Lots of questions, including “when”, “where”, “and what about”. Please continue to make your awareness and input to the process part of the solution.

Want to note: securing childcare arrangements are hard and emotional in the best of times. Supervisors: when discussing work resumption arrangements, parents must have *time* to find safe childcare for their kids.

Really useful and comprehensive National Union-Management Consultation Committee (NUMCC) this week. Many thanks to our bargaining agent colleagues for your ongoing cooperation, collaboration and leadership getting DND/CAF back to work.

Congrats to the Canadian Forces College 2020 graduates of the National Security Program We’re counting on you to be voices for sensible, humane and strategic leadership within the CAF, DND, the Government of Canada, and around the world.

We’re continuing to push through during this truly difficult period. Thank you for your flexibility, collaboration, patience, and professionalism. We will get through this, together. Please stay safe, stay well and in case you’ve forgotten wash your hands.
