June 26: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas

June 26, 2020 - Defence Stories

Friday Update: Main questions from the Defence Team on business resumption (1) How do managers decide who works on-site and who works from home? (2) What’s the guidance on 699 leave, especially for those with child-care challenges?

We’ll discuss that and more at Monday’s virtual town hall with our regional leaders who are driving the BRP process at the local level. Lots of work already underway with more to do.

Each region—and each Base or Wing—will encounter different scenarios based on local health conditions and the operational responsibilities they hold. Check out the Toolkit for supervisors to help communicate with staff:

A huge thank you to our Canadian Armed Forces members who have worked tirelessly to stabilize conditions in ON and QC Long Term Care Facilities. Outstanding leadership in difficult circumstances.

Bravo Zulu this week to the HR GO RH App team in HR-CIV for their work to integrate an intuitive selection functionality for managers looking to hire summer students. A great, flexible tool, built by an innovative and awesome team.

Saturday 27 June is Global Pride 2020. It’s an opportunity to celebrate our valued Defence Team colleagues within the LGBTQ+ community and to reaffirm that there is no room for intolerance and discrimination within our Defence Team organization.

Canada Day 2020 is on Wednesday. Whether at home or abroad, on duty or on leave, take time to celebrate the gift that is Canada, and our shared honour to protect and defend it. Happy Canada Day!

Our celebrations will—once again—look different than previous years. Whatever you’re doing—do it safely, and wash your hands!
