A reminder for Civilian Defence Team members: Summer leave is more important than ever!

June 23, 2020 – Defence Stories

Given the stress and uncertainty experienced over the past few months, there is no better time than now to take some time off to rest, energize, and practice self-care  away from work.

As summer approaches, all civilian employees are encouraged to consider using some of their earned vacation leave over the summer months, and to submit your leave requests to your manager if you have not already done so.

If you have access to HRMS (PeopleSoft), please submit your requests in the system. If you do not have access, call HR Connect at 1-833-747-6363.

You may wish to consider a “staycation” as a way to disconnect and recharge this summer in light of current travel restrictions and physical distancing recommendations. This can positively impact your mental health through improved sleep and reduced stress. Without the competing priorities of work and home life, you can re-establish a sense of balance and enjoy time with friends and loved ones or adopt a new hobby such as gardening or hiking..

Please remember that civilian employees are expected to use their vacation leave in the year in which it is earned. By submitting your vacation leave request as soon as possible, you allow yourself a greater opportunity to be granted the time period you are seeking and can begin to plan accordingly.

If you are planning to engage in inter-provincial or international travel, you must abide by public health travel advisories, active travel health notices, and restrictions outlined by provincial authorities. Note that a mandatory isolation period may be required upon your return. As a result, please consider that additional leave may need to be utilized if remote work is not possible.
