A message from LGen Eyre the 2020 NDWCC Champion about the National Defence COVID-19 Emergency Charity Campaign
June 15, 2020 – Defence Stories
As you are all acutely aware, the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting many of our fellow Canadians, either directly or indirectly. This includes seniors, new Canadians, the newly unemployed, and those with health issues, physical and otherwise.
We are fortunate to work in an organization full of caring, generous and selfless people. To offer our members a way to support and give back to their own communities, we launched the National Defence COVID-19 Emergency Charity Campaign. This is an extension of our larger National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign (NDWCC), which I am privileged to champion this year.
Funds raised through this emergency campaign will go to United Way Centraide Canada, to support local food banks, and HealthPartners, the umbrella under which more than a dozen national health charities do their valuable work.
I am proud to share that the Defence Team to date has donated just over $40,000 in support of the United Way’s Local Love in a Global Crisis and HealthPartners’ “Help our Helpers” funds.
This emergency campaign will continue until Saturday, 20 June, 2020 and I encourage all to promote the campaign until then.
The National Defence COVID-19 Emergency Charity Campaign website provides information on both of the charities and their emergency funds as well as detailed steps on how to donate to the campaign. Funds raised through this campaign will count towards Base and Wing’s contributions to the NDWCC.
Please share this information with all members of your organizations and encourage them to donate if possible. As well, I ask you to continue promoting this important campaign within your organization using all forms of communication including social media, email, and virtual and face-to-face meetings.
When Canada calls, the Defence Team is always there. Let’s show our fellow Canadians again how much we care.
Together we can make a difference.
Lieutenant-General Wayne Eyre
Commander, Canadian Army and Champion for the 2020
