September 25: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas

September 25, 2020 - Defence Stories

Friday Update: Felt motivated by the many voices of #DefenceTeam members lifting one another up this past Gender Equality Week. All of society has a stake in achieving #GenderEquality, so we all need to be part of the solution. That means you.

Speaking of working together, Canadian public health experts and leaders are not mincing their words: Canadians are at a #COVID19 crossroads. Our actions right now will dictate whether things get better or worse. That also means you.

Stay home if you’re sick and follow public health advice. Regional health authorities will stop asking nicely and enact stronger measures if people don’t comply. We saw that this week with the new measures issued by @ottawahealth: https://www.ottawapublichealth.ca/en/public-health-topics/resources/2020-09-22--Class-Section-22-Order-September-20-2020---Updated-1-30pm.pdf

Some #DefenceTeam want to tough it out when we feel sick. We don’t want to be judged, penalized, or pitied. Or we push through since there’s SO MUCH TO DO. Understood, but spreading illness around causes far more harm in the long run. Especially now.

Cold and flu season adds complications. To mitigate that risk, we can all get a #FluShot. Both @CDS_CANADA_CEMD and I strongly recommend that you do so.

Military and civilian L1s are in the process of revising their Business Continuity Plans to address the current resurgence. Further DM/CDS direction is coming soon. In the meantime, stay safe, be prudent, and #washyourhands
