If you have a soon-to-be high school graduate currently weighing their post-secondary options, or perhaps know someone who is at this pivotal stage in their life, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) offers a unique, subsidized post-secondary education opportunity: the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP).

Graduating high school students and currently enrolled university students who would like to begin a rewarding career in the CAF should seriously consider applying to the ROTP.

Selected candidates will attend either the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston, Ontario, or the Royal Military College Saint-Jean (RMC Saint-Jean) in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Tuition fees are fully subsidized and students receive a salary, benefits, and vacation time during the course of their studies.

Through the Royal Military Colleges' ROTP, students also have the opportunity to advance their second language skills and physical fitness levels. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in their chosen area of study, they will have guaranteed employment with the CAF.

The CAF also offers paid education in the skilled trades. Taking courses and earning qualifications at an eligible civilian technical school, or a military trade school, is also paid for by the CAF. An example of an extremely competitive and in-demand trade is Marine Technician: MAR Tech.

Please speak to a recruiter to find out more about eligible programs.

The application period is now open for the Fall 2021 academic year. Interested applicants should submit their online application as soon as possible to ensure all processing steps are completed in time for consideration for the 2021 school year. Offers are made in May, and basic training begins in June.

During the COVID 19 pandemic, the Canadian Military Colleges are adhering to Health Canada, Canadian Forces Health Services, and local public health direction and protocols. These protocols include everyone undergoing a two-week isolation period to ensure they are healthy before starting their academic session and military training. Following isolation, they are organized into groups called cohorts. Operating as “family bubbles,” each cohort of first-year N/OCdts and dedicated command and control staff live, work and train together during the academic session.

More information about paid education with the CAF is available through the Forces.ca recruitment portal. You can also contact a CAF recruiter to discuss these exciting education opportunities further.
