February 12: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas
February 16, 2021 – Defence Stories
Friday Update: The Provinces and Territories are managing COVID in ways appropriate to their situations. That means #DefenceTeam members are dealing with different work situations based on factors like regional infection rates, type of work, location and more.
No matter where you are or what you’re doing, our collective approach should be to follow regional public health guidance and use common sense, including taking fundamental precautions like handwashing, keeping our distance and wearing masks.
Some provinces have begun vaccinations. #DefenceTeam public servants who secure appointments through provincial health authorities can use “Code 698 – leave with pay for medical/dental appointment”. No need to use sick leave or vacation leave.
We’re still getting questions about how and when to utilize “Leave 699”. Since it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach, talk to your supervisor about options, and feel confident engaging your Labour Relations colleagues to support the discussion.
If you’re working from home but you feel sick, you still have access to your allotted sick leave. Use it with the same consideration as in pre-COVID times and don’t shy away from taking a sick day if you need to rest and recover.
Eleven months in, and despite metaphors about “marathons not sprints” we’re still in this. Thank you for your resilience, professionalism, and dedication throughout this year. You are a remarkable team whose efforts are deeply appreciated.
