March 9, 2021 - Defence Stories

Way to go! Nice work! Keep it up!

Do you know of a co-worker who deserves a special shout out?

Are you looking for a way to recognize your peers in this current online-only environment?

Do you want to give a colleague a high-five but physical distancing still prevents it?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then a Virtual Shout-out is the way to go!

Due to its popularity last year, the Virtual Shoutout program is back for 2021, and remain, a quick and easy way for you to publicly recognize a colleague, or team of colleagues, for a job well done.

What is a Virtual Shout-Out?

The Virtual Shout-Outs are coordinated by the Defence Team’s Corporate Awards and Recognition Secretariat (CARS), and is open to all members of the Defence Team, Military and public servants alike. Just send them a few sentences recognizing a colleague for a job well done, and voila, your shout out will be posted to the Defence Team “Virtual Shout-Out” Bulletin Board on The Maple Leaf, HR Go RH app and the Defence Team intranet.

Messages should be brief, and include; the name of the individual, why they are being acknowledged, how they achieved their goal or made their mark and its impact on the team or organization. You can check-out some early submissions to the 2021 Bulletin Board, below.

Here’s how

Please e-mail all requests for shout outs to the CARS at Awards-Recompenses@forces.gc.ca. Please also provide the email(s) of the person(s) being recognized. Please note, shout-Out recipients will be given the option to “opt out” of having their message displayed on the Bulletin Board, and submissions can remain anonymous.

You can also access a variety of resources and updated information related on how Defence is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic on the Defence Team – COVID-19 page, the DND and CAF social media accounts, and on the HR Go RH app.

Don’t delay - virtually shout-out your hard-working colleagues today!

Bravo Zulu to Jennifer Mootrey for all of her work both in the CF MP Gp HQ J7 Selection Cell and on her own time. She constantly acts as a positive influence, takes initiatives to support section morale (the Timbits are always appreciated) and always takes the time to check in with people to see how they’re doing. If this wasn’t enough, she has also demonstrated outstanding resilience throughout the pandemic by challenging herself and others to maintain and improve physical fitness and mental well-being. Thank you so much for all of your efforts!

I’d like to send a huge shout out and salute to the team of DES Proc 5 for their hard work and dedication towards processing an exorbitant amount of ATIP requests during the months of September and October. The entire team put forth a tremendous collective effort to review, sever, and submit thousands of pages of contracting documentation under tight timelines while adopting a new and evolving electronic process, in addition to performing their regular duties. I truly appreciated their willingness to go into the office to search filing cabinets and manually scan large amounts of documentation under the current COVID restrictions as well as the numerous hours expended to review each record, which included many members working diligently into the evenings to ensure the quality and thoroughness of the submissions. They also had to navigate multiple technical issues with RDIMS/ADOBE/FOXIT which made their work even more difficult due to constant crashes and the inability to save their work. Their efforts also helped to validate and further inform and improve the Standard Operating Procedure for this new electronic process. They truly demonstrated what team work means. Thank you to: Corey Lee, Alex Li, Debbie Toll, Monica McCallum, Alex Stouffer, Lynne Stapledon, Sophal Thin, Diane Francoeur Massia, Karin Donis, Fifi Kabengwa, Vania Tsang, Rodger Kargus, Elizabeth Kadamani, Rachel Desjardins, Issam Bakhti and Jessica Foss!

As a representative of Architectural and Engineering Services, Nina’s collaborative spirit and organizational skills have helped the interface between the design team and the project team, ensuring that all milestones were met. Congratulations Nina on a job well done. Your colleagues recognize all the work you have done and appreciate all your ongoing efforts!

This shout out is for the hardworking, dedicated individuals in Release Benefits Administration (RBA) who throughout this entire period have ensured that the final processing and payment of release benefits for releasing CAF members have continued to be processed. Additionally, during this busy period of the implementation of CAFRA (the new CAF Release Admin tool), RBA found innovative ways to deliver virtual training to bases across the country.

The RBA’s success is directly representative of the collaboration from Release Sections & Administrators, the demonstrated leadership at levels of the RBA from their Senior NCMs, Junior NCMs and Public Servants alike.

Since the outset of Op Laser, Brett Whittaker has worked tirelessly to develop systems and streamline processes required to get Defence 365 accounts and access provisioned to end users. He further designed and implemented the front end to the Sync Lite Account Management (SLAM) service which provides a cloud account administration portal for support personnel and a self-service portal (MyInfo) so that users can perform their own cloud account onboarding and administration. This set of tools has accelerated the department’s move to the cloud while helping to ease the burden of support & administration tasks on SMC & support personnel. These deliverables have been pivotal in the success and adoption of Defence 365 across the department.

We would like to submit a virtual bravo to Sergeant Maxime Boucher, Sergeant with 2nd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group Headquarters, for the effective management of unit supply files during this pandemic. While still a master corporal, his tireless dedication enabled the unit to pursue its mandate of supporting Ranger patrols in remote areas of Quebec, while numerous supply and transportation chains were disrupted by the pandemic. His team continues to work on site with good morale thanks to the implementation of enhanced health and protection measures in its workspaces. Thank you to you and your team for your contribution and bravo once again on your promotion!
