May 28: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas
June 1st, 2021 – Defence Stories
Friday Update: Most of us are very bad at mind reading. Rather than guess how your reports and colleagues are feeling, ask them. Listening—openly and empathetically—is one of the most powerful leadership tools we can use right now.
This Indigenous Awareness Week has been an opportunity learn more about First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. I encourage you to read this message from MGen St-Louis, our #DefenceTeam Champion for Indigenous Peoples.
Some #DefenceTeam folks are asking about posture updates since many of us—in the CAF especially—are at least partially vaccinated. A DM/CDS Summer Directive will be out in the coming weeks. In the meantime, keep being cautious. We are still in this fight.
Lots of considerations around how the future of work look and how it will implicate the Defence Team. We’re working with central government agencies and the unions, and we’re looking at what’s possible given the work Canadians count on us to do.
Our union colleagues in the regions are essential partners in preventing and addressing workplace violence and harassment. Ongoing engagement and dialogue with them is essential. HR-CIV’s Labour Relations team is there to help.
Four weeks to go before the virtual #DefenceTeam Minds Matter team will run/walk/stroll in support of women’s mental health. Please don’t wonder if you’re welcome to join the team. You are. Details here: http://run.convio.net/site/TR/Events/General?team_id=8852&pg=team&fr_id=1237 (You are now leaving the Government of Canada website).
Final tweet this week is to recognize the herculean efforts of those many #DefenceTeam member going flat-out-non-stop supporting Canadians in crisis situations right now, whether it’s fires, floods or COVID. We see you, and we thank you.
