Hiring Managers: Recruitment and talent sourcing - leveraging social media

June 1st, 2021 - Defence Stories

Using social media (SM) in the staffing process is a great way to market hard-to-fill vacancies within DND. It’s another way ADM(HR-Civ) is leveraging technology for recruitment to target key talent.

There are 3 great options available:

1. Social Media posts. These are used to market an advertised staffing process for a hard-to-fill vacancy or work stream. A SM post will be created and shared on all 3 of DND’s SM platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter) marketing the GC Jobs advertisement.

Facebook: @National DefenceGC

LinkedIn: National Defence

Twitter: @NationalDefence

2. Direct Sourcing through LinkedIn. We search the LinkedIn membership database via the recruiter license for candidates who may meet pre-determined selection criterion, such as education, experience, and skills. This is an excellent way to engage passive candidates, those who are not actively searching for a job, but would consider a career change for the right opportunity. This option should only be explored after all other staffing options have been exhausted. Appointments from this method, would be external non-advertised.

3.  A job posting on LinkedIn. This option markets job vacancies to active and passive candidates and allows them to apply directly to the LinkedIn job ad.  This is a good tool to attract hard-to-recruit vacancies to those who do not normally watch GC Jobs for job postings.  The LinkedIn job poster would be posted at the same time as the GC Jobs poster.
