Spring Updates for Defence 365 & Microsoft Teams

June 22, 2021 - Defence Stories

Over the last few months, a number of upgrades have been made to Microsoft Teams (MS Teams), Microsoft Teams Live Events (MS Teams Live Events), and Defence 365 (D365). As these platforms continue to grow, it is now easier than ever to participate and collaborate with others, or organize and attend events. Let’s dive in:

Sending attachments to External Email Addresses from D365 Accounts

D365 users with a valid business justification can now send attachments via their ECN email to recipients external (e.g. Hotmail, Gmail, etc.) to DND/CAF. When sending emails with attachments to external addresses, users may be prompted to provide a valid business justification for sending the attachment. The justification will be reviewed by the D365 Security Monitoring Team later. For more details, please visit here (D365 login required).

MS Teams Meetings participant limit increased from 300 to 1,000

Whether it’s a small meeting between colleagues or a large-scale interactive event, MS Teams is by far the easiest way to host any event.

Don’t forget that organizers of MS Teams Meetings have the ability to turn off all video and audio except for specific presenters or turn off video and/or audio of specific attendees. To configure these settings, schedule your meeting as normal and once sent, reopen the meeting in your MS Teams calendar and select “Meeting Options” in the top ribbon.

External participants can participate in MS Teams Live Events

Other government departments and public speakers can now participate in a MS Teams Live Events with DND. These external participants (i.e. those without an ECN account) can now present with both audio and video or simply attend as an attendee.

Please ensure to indicate that you require public access when requesting your next MS Teams Live Event. To organize your own MS Teams Live Event, please fill out the intake form on the D365 Intranet site (available on DWAN only) or the D365 SharePoint Site (D365 login required).

Using the DWAN to organize and watch MS Teams Live Events

DND/CAF members can now either attend or organize their MS Teams Live Events using the DWAN. Please note, personnel are still highly encouraged to use their personal device(s) for MS Teams Live Events for best performance and to help protect the integrity of our critical networks.

Support for D365 Available via Personal Devices

Users without access to the DWAN can now receive technical support using the new EITSM D365 Non-DWAN Service Request Form (D365 Login Required). Users that do have DWAN access should still submit D365 tickets through EITSM/Assyst for technical support. For additional forms of support such as FAQs and best practices, please visit the Defence 365 Portal - Getting Help (D365 Login Required).

Available Training for D365

All DND/CAF members have access to free Microsoft training for a number of D365 applications through the Microsoft Enterprise Skills Initiative Learner Experience Portal (D365 Login Required). Users have the opportunity to gain certifications for completing selected courses at their leisure.

Additional training can be found through the D365 Portal - Training Resources (D365 Login Required). Along with articles and videos, users can register for live training (D365 Login Required) with Microsoft professionals.
