Launch of Mid-Year Performance Reviews with request for clean-up of reporting structures

October 12, 2021 -  Defence Stories

Midyear performance reviews provide employees with an opportunity to receive feedback on their overall performance for the first part of the year. This feedback is part of an ongoing process to clarify work objectives and expectations, reinforce achievements, and provide greater understanding of areas that need improvement.

In these unprecedented times, taking the time to have this conversation has never been more important. It is the opportunity for managers to touch base with their employees to gain a better understanding of their unique working situation and specific challenges. This will ensure that employees have the support they need to succeed and be at their best.

This year, we also ask that you focus on reporting relationships by cleaning up reporting structures through the claiming or releasing of direct reports within the PSPM app. This will help improve the data integrity of the system.

Here are the steps you must complete:

Executives and Managers with Direct Reports in the App:

1.     Log into PSPM app (accessible only on the National Defence network) and go to “My Employees Performance Agreements” tab

2.     Is the list current/accurate? (Note: if you’ve recently changed position, this list may well be outdated.) More specifically:

a.     Are all your direct reports listed?

b.     Do you have employees listed who are no longer your direct reports?

3.     If you are missing employees, follow instructions in Establishing Your Team in the PSPM App of the PSPM App user guide for executives and managers/supervisors (accessible only on the National Defence network) to add them.

4.     Release those employees that you no longer manage: BUT WAIT!

a.     First, is their performance agreement up to date? As it is September, you will want to ensure that the employee’s 2021-2022 performance agreement is in place and that their mid-year review is complete before releasing them.

b.     If everything is up to date for the employee(s) you can then release them; follow the instructions in When and How to Release an Employee (accessible only on the National Defence network) of the PSPM App user guide for executives and managers/supervisors (accessible only on the National Defence network) to do so.

2.     If you have recently changed position or if you recently acquired a new manager, follow instructions in the What Happens Next (accessible only on the National Defence network)? section of the PSPM App user guide for employees (accessible only on the National Defence network).
