Invitation to attend RMC’s annual Haycock Lecture

The Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) War Studies Programme invites Defence Team members to attend this year’s annual Haycock Lecture, where Dr. Stephen J. Mariano, Dean of the NATO Defense College in Rome, will present Innovation: Opportunities and Risks, highlighting that while we tend to associate innovation with technology, there are other factors that lead to innovation.

The virtual presentation will take place on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 7 p.m. EST and is open to the public. To register, fill in the form. A Zoom link will be sent a couple of days prior to the session.

About Dr. Mariano

Dr. Mariano earned a PhD in War Studies from RMC, an MS in Strategic Planning, International Organizations, and Negotiations from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., and a BA in Mathematics and Economics from the University of California.

He taught military strategy and comparative military systems at the U.S. Military.

Academy in West Point, N.Y., as well as politics and U.S. foreign policy at RMC. He was formerly the U.S. Army War College Visiting Defence Fellow at Queen’s University’s Centre for International Relations, the U.S. Army’s Senior Fellow at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, and a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Seminar XXI Fellow.

His other military service includes senior appointments with the Secretary of the Army, the U.S. Army Chief of Staff, and the U.S. Army’s Southern European Task Force. His deployed experience includes senior appointments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dr. Mariano is a graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger School, U.S. Army Airborne School, U.S. Army Air Assault School, and French Centre Entraînement Commando #4.
