Surgeon General Message: Canadian Forces Health Services Accreditation Survey; Thank you to our patients

As Surgeon General, I want to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for all Canadian Armed Forces members who participated in our organization's on-site survey with Accreditation Canada during May and June 2022. Whether you participated in a 'Patient Focus Group', talked one on one with a surveyor, gave your consent for a surveyor to observe your patient encounter or consented to a health record review, I thank you for your time, support and candidness. Your participation was paramount to the success of the survey.

We received a general debrief at the end of the survey regarding our strengths as a healthcare organization as well as areas needing improvement, which included a summary of what the surveyors heard from you. 

Overall, the surveyors noted that we provide safe care to our patients in our medical and dental clinics across the country. They observed some variation across the country in your perceptions of the quality and accessibility of the care you need. They also noted that you as patients were very honest in expressing what you are satisfied with regarding your health care and what you think needs to change. It was very clear to the surveyors that you as our patients have a strong desire to partner with our organization and be at the table as we move forward with health services improvements. We will be working hard over the coming months to develop the ways and means to involve you more in decisions about your personal health care as well as the shaping of CFHS services and programs. CFHS expects to receive the final Accreditation Report later this summer. It will provide much more detail on the surveyors' findings and recommendations and will assist us with updating our strategic priorities for the next 12 – 18 months and beyond.
