DRDC Led Team Finishes First in International Cyber Security Competition

A team from Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) took home the gold medal in an international capture-the-flag cybersecurity competition on Aug. 16, 2022.

The DRDC-led team competed remotely against a total of 72 teams from 13 countries in this Armed Forces Communications and Electronic Association event intended to allow military and college teams to highlight their skills, resiliency and achievements. The challenges were in the domains of binary exploitation, reverse engineering, web exploitation, cryptography, forensics and security, and more.

The DRDC-led team entered the competition at the last minute and were surprised when BGen Paul Stanton, Commanding General at the US Army Cyber Center of Excellence tweeted congratulations to @CanadianForces on the win.

Cyber Force Commander, RAdm Luciano Carosielli presented the DRDC team with their trophy on Sept. 29, 2022 at Canadian Forces Station Leitrim and Commanding Officer DRDC Military Support Unit Col Simon Comtois presented the medal to Maj Jeremy Paquette on Oct. 11, 2022.

The International Military and Collegiate Capture the Flag competition was part of the Technet 2022 event (you are now leaving the Government of Canada website).
