Seeking Your Help to Develop a Peer Support Feature for People Affected by Military Sexual Misconduct

July 28, 2023 – Defence Stories

The Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre (SMSRC) Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Peer Support program, in collaboration with Veterans Affairs Canada, is developing a Formal MST Peer Support Group to help address the needs of those affected by MST.

Are you a French-speaking current or former Defence Team member affected by MST who is interested in making a difference? The SMSRC MST Peer Support program is seeking interested members to participate in and evaluate the Formal MST Peer Support Group. This will help inform continued developments of this program to best meet the needs of our community. Please note that English-speaking peer support group sessions have been underway since the week of June 12, 2023.

The Formal MST Peer Support Group consists of six virtual group sessions. The theme for each 90-minute session is predetermined and supported by prepared educational materials related to MST. Sessions are led by a peer facilitator with lived experience and a mental health professional and are held in a confidential space where group discussion, peer engagement, and knowledge transfer can take place.

To participate, you must commit to an intake meeting and to attend and evaluate the six peer support group sessions. Your feedback on the French Formal MST Peer Support Group will help us improve the registration processes, delivery format, group format, educational material related to psychology, and the overall experience.

If you are interested, you are invited to learn more about the Formal MST Peer Support Group sessions and reach out to the MST Peer Support program by emailing their positional mailbox at SMSRCPSP-CSRISPSP@forces.gc.ca before September 5, 2023. Upon receiving your email, the SMSRC will arrange an intake meeting with you.

The SMSRC extends its sincere appreciation for your valuable assistance and collaboration in developing a tailored MST Peer Support program.
