Three pays in August – Impact on your Pay Deductions
July 31, 2023 - Defence Stories

Normally, there are two pay periods in a month, where 50% of certain monthly deductions, such as Union Dues, Death Benefit, Disability Insurance, and the Public Service Health Care Plan are deducted evenly in each pay period.
August 2023 is a month with 3 pay days. This means these types of deductions will be taken only from the second (August 16) and third (August 30) payments of the month, resulting in a higher net pay for the August 2nd pay day.
Note for employees covered by the recently signed Technical Services (TC), Program Administration (PA), Organization and Methods Group (OM), Comptrollership (CT), and Electronics (EL) collective agreements:
- Most employees will see a new rate of pay on their August 2nd pay. This adjustment aligns rates of pay with those reflected in the new collective agreements, effective July 6, 2023.
- Some employees of these groups will not see an adjustment to their pay, as manual intervention by Public Services and Procurement Canada’s (PSPC) Pay Centre is required for implementation. Examples of situations where manual intervention is required are: salary restructure, salary protection, and other.
