Virtual Shout-Outs – Bulletin #30

August 31, 2023 - Defence Stories

Way to Go! Nice Work! Keep it Up!

The Defence team is bringing the heat this August with the Virtual Shout-Outs!

"I think you need to love giving compliments as much as you love receiving them.”

– Yami Gautam

Do you know of a co-worker who deserves a special shout-out or are you looking for a way to recognize someone who has made an impact, big or small? Virtual Shout-Outs are a quick and easy way for you to publicly recognize a colleague, or team of colleagues, for a job well done.

Here’s how to submit a Virtual Shout-out:

Note that shout-out recipients will be given the option to “opt out” of having their message displayed on the Bulletin Board (accessible only on the National Defence network) on the Maple Leaf and the Defence Team intranet, and submissions can remain anonymous.

Don’t delay! Virtually shout-out your hard-working colleagues today!

Captain DeRuiter demonstrates daily his professionalism and controlling competency while mentoring the IFR controllers at the IFR terminal at 15 Wing Moose Jaw. Recently Capt DeRuiter was able to provide exceptional radar services to a civilian pilot who was weather diverting and unfamiliar with CYMJ airspace. Capt DeRuiter calm demeanor, professionalism and excellent controlling provided the civilian pilot with a fantastic level of service enabling the pilot to reach his destination safely and without delay. The civilian pilot noted in his last transmission “Thank you Moose Jaw Terminal, I really needed the hand holding back there” further highlighting the important work Capt DeRuiter conducts daily.

Bravo Zulu Capt DeRuiter!
Safe, Orderly, Expeditious
Capt Justin Eddison, CD

John Leblanc has taken over for the Fin Service Manager due to a family matter for the short-term and has been juggling the Management of 3 Fin Service Desks, successfully – though they are understaffed and will be undergoing changes in all 3 systems very soon. John has continued to attend meetings on behalf of the Fin Service Desk Manager, while checking in with the Supervisors of the 3 fin service desks and liaising with the Fin Service Desk Manager and calling meetings when complex issues arise to resolve them in the easiest possibly way. John has stepped up to this temporary leadership and has done a great job filling some very busy shoes!

Master Corporal Audet is continuously striving to learn new things and not only does a great job at assisting clients at his primary Service Desk – Automated Cashier System (ACS) but has also assisted on the Fin System (DRMIS) desk enthusiastically due to shortages in staff, despite initial unfamiliarity. The member is a dependable and knowledgeable asset to the Team in all aspects. MCpl Audet has done a very good job in guiding new Cashiers, especially since most Cashiers are switched out during this very busy posting season, so the new Cashiers that are now in place are communicating their questions to MCpl Audet, who successfully directs them.

To Bousso and Krista,

Our office wouldn't be the same place without each of you. Thank you for making it such a fun place to work and I am so proud to work with such a hardworking individual!

Kimberly Moore-Ciesielski, a registered nurse with the Canadian Forces Health Services (CFHS HQ) has been providing support to formerly injured clients within the program for the past 8 years. Throughout this time, she has worked to streamline the program to make it efficient and effective. She has provided guidance and support to the team by sharing best practices and historical information that she has learned over the years. Her clinical skills and knowledge have been an asset to the team and a benefit to the clients she works with. Her work has ensured the program is successful and that client needs are addressed. We are fortunate to have such strong leadership within the team and are grateful for all that you do Kim.

Shout-out to the exceptional team of senior instructors and leaders in the Operations Division at Naval Fleet School Atlantic (NFS(A)); Adam Drover, Mark Wilson, Adam Reece, Scott Rogers, Tylor Jennex, Jeff Lacey, and Dave Buchanan. Their excellent work and dedication towards their students’ achievements and coordination of support crewing enabled a busy but successful end to this year’s Combined Mission Phase (CMP) at NFS(A). The CMP is a very demanding period with most in-house courses involved in our Operations Room trainers. All the courses come together in a simulated war/conflict scenario. The success of the students would not be possible without the planning, coordination, mentorship and assessing done by these knowledgeable individuals. They are responsible for the addition of over 70 newly qualified sailors at their respective rank levels to help crew our ships at sea!

Cheers,
– Johno

A big “thank you” from everyone at CFLA for the small but very efficient Business Management Team (Jacqueline Perrin, Teri Lavergne, Sean Showell, and Todd Mazereeuw) who kept us “afloat” despite a number of employees away on holidays. CFLA brought in a number of new employees from Justice and a new team member over from OJAG during the summer and this team was able to process the paperwork, make sure the financial issues were solved, set them up with access to the building and IT equipment that worked well from day 1. Kudos to all!
