As of January 2024, ADM (HR-Civ) will be offering online Second Language Evaluations (SLE) for Reading Comprehension and Written Expression to all public service employees at the Department of National Defence (DND). This new service is intended to support you in your career development. The tests provide quick and easy access to SLE results, helping you understand your language training needs. They also make it simpler to keep your language profile up to date, so you are ready to be hired into any position across the public service.
Registration starts now!
To register, complete and submit the SLE Reading and Writing Registration form bv January 12, 2024! The first round of tests will be from January 19 to February 2, 2024. A call-out will be sent through the Defence Team News each quarter to inform you of the next testing dates.
Note
- Do not register if you have completed the SLE within 30 days of your testing date. You must wait 30 days before retaking a test.
- Employees in bilingual positions: If you choose to take a test and do not obtain the required results for your position, this may impact your bilingual bonus.
About the cyclical SLEs
- The tests are administered online by ADM(HR-Civ) via the Public Service Commission’s (PSC) Candidate Assessment Tool
- Tests are for any public service employee at DND, including Students, Casuals, Term and Indeterminate employees.
- Accessible from any computer or device, on or off the National Defence Network.
- Occur every quarter
- Free of cost
- Results are:
- Valid for 5 years
- Transferable to any position across the public service
- Automatically uploaded to your HRMS profile.
- Accessible from your Candidate Assessment Tool account
- Level X, A, B or C (Level E is not a possible result for these unsupervised tests)
Duration
- The Unsupervised Test of Reading Comprehension takes 45 minutes to complete
- The Unsupervised Test of Written Expression takes 45 minutes to complete
